Peacocks
Each Bird has a name and individual behaviours. We use ID bands with colour coding so we can quickly identify each Bird although you can often tell which Peacock is which just by the way they behave. The gallery below identifies each Peacock and a little about them.
Andrew
Andrew was born on the 5th April 2018 and he rules the roost, is the leader of the pack and a definite ladies’ man. He enjoys being around Hamish, Angus and Katie. Andrew likes to wander, and he is father of the year 2022 to Blu, Rory, Charley and Duke. Andrew has been in the park since he was donated by Lord Moncrieff at Tullibole Castle, and he is our only Indian Blue Black Shoulder and has a red ring on.
Katie
Katie was born on the 4th June 2019 and was brought to the park with her brother Xander from Edinburgh and she is a beautiful white peahen who has an orange ring. White peafowl are Indian blue birds that have a rare genetic mutation called Leucism which results in no pigment in their feathers and beautiful blue/grey eyes. Katie likes to be muddy and never stays white for long, always bathing in the dirt! She loves her food and is always first to come running when the food goes in. She likes to hang around with Louis and Angel. Although she lays a lot of eggs, she doesn’t want to sit on them, and she is the biological mum to Skout and Skylar.
Louis
Louis was the first baby born in the park for 16 years on the 29th June 2019 and was the only surviving chick out of three born to Malcolm and Caroline. Due to being an only chick, Katie and Xander were brough in to keep him company. Louis is an Indian Blue Split White Peacock with a yellow ring, and he is a very quiet natured soul, but can be dominant when it comes to food, especially his beloved chocolate cake! He is very happy in the enclosure as he feels safe and likes to have a bath in the sand. After surviving a horrific attack in May 2022, he fought his way back to full health and he is father to Skout and Skylar.
Hamish
Hamish was on the 28th June 2020 to Abbey and Bruce and he is an Indian Blue peacock with a black ring on. He was born in the park, and he is a quiet boy who enjoys his food and is always looking for more! He is Andrew’s sidekick along with brother Angus. Likes to go for a wander around the glen and the town and sometime just likes to be on his own.
Angus
Angus was born on the 28th June 2020 to Abbey and Bruce and he is an Indian Blue Peacock and he has an orange ring on. Angus was hand reared for the first few weeks of his life and he is the cheeky boy of the aviary, likes human company, loves food and a stroke under the chin. Likes to follow when anyone leaves and likes to have a wander in the inside aviary. He hangs around with his brother Hamish, friend Andrew and likes sitting beside the girls when they are sitting on eggs.
Patsy
Patsy is a beautiful Indian Blue Peahen who was born on the 28th June 2020 to Abbey and Bruce and she has a green ring on. Patsy is a quiet girl who enjoys hanging around with her sister Kaylee and Katie and can be quite inquisitive and usually gets into trouble with Zoe and Eva. After her eggs failed to hatch, she became a surrogate to Katies eggs and is now a proud mum to baby Skout.
Kaylee
Kaylee was born on the 28th June 2020 to Abbey and Bruce and is a beautiful Indian Blue Peahen with a white ring on. She became a first-time mummy to two chicks born in September 2022 and is a brilliant mummy who doesn’t hesitate in giving her chicks a row if they need it. She likes to hang around with her sister Patsy and Zoe and Eva and loves her food, especially coriander and melon.
Angel
Angel is a beautiful white peahen who was rehomed at the sanctuary on 4th August 2022. White peafowl are Indian blue birds that have a rare genetic mutation called Leucism which results in no pigment in their feathers and beautiful blue/grey eyes. Angel is a quiet girl but slowly coming out of her shell and despite being white, likes to get muddy and likes to bathe in the sand. She loves her food and is developing a love of cake, a very special treat.
Eva
Eva was born within the park to Abbey and Henry on 28th May 2021 and is an Indian Blue peahen who has a pale blue ring on. Eva is a quiet girl and easily led, loves her food and hanging around with sister Zoe. She also likes to sit on top of the volunteers’ cars if they are in the courtyard and she can be very nosey.
Zoe
Zoe was born on 6th June 2021 to Abbey and Henry and due to not hatching at the same time as her siblings she was born in an incubator and hand reared at home until she was reintroduced to her brothers and sister at 8 weeks old and moved into the aviary full time. Zoe is an Indian Blue peahen with a purple ring on and she is very mischievous, likes to hang around and go wandering with her sister Eva. She loves her food and is prone to stealing and running!! Likes to wander around the glen and hang around at the café with the others. She is also a surrogate mum to Katies eggs and hatched our beautiful Skylar and is proving to be an amazing mum.
Skout
Skout was born on 4th June 2023 in the outside roost and shares his birthday with biological mum Katie. After Katie decided she wasn’t going to sit on her eggs they were given to Patsy to sit on. Skouts dad is Louis, who is an Indian Blue Split White and mum is an Indian Blue White and Skout is our very first Indian Blue Pied peachick. Skout is proving to be a big personality and loves mealworms, being with Patsy and he has on a blue ring.
Skylar
Skylar was born on 25th June 2023 under Zoe in the roost, but the biological parents are Louis and Katie. Zoe had a baby that passed just after birth and her other eggs were unviable, so Katies eggs were removed from the incubator and given to Zoe. Skylar was named in memory of our beloved aviary dog Sky who passed away in May. Skylar is an Indian Blue Split White peacock, Born a very tiny baby but developing well with a very curious personality, Skylar is developing a love for mealworms and cuddles with mum. He has been given a purple ring, like mum.
Our newest babies were born in the outside roost to Kaylee and Andrew on the 19th July 2023 and three of these are Indian Blue Black Shoulder and one is a standard Indian Blue. Kaylee is being a fantastic mum and the babies are thriving under her care. We have established that there are 3 boys and one girl.
Dexter, named by a public vote is a Black shoulder and wears a grey ring.
Harris is the other Black Shoulder peacock, and he has been named after a very special boy that visits our aviary regularly and has a green ring.
Indie is the only Indian Blue and he has a red ring and was named by a volunteer who has been working at the aviary for 7 years.
Our one and only girl of 2023 is a Black shoulder hen. She has been named Roxy, in memory of a very special girl who is no longer with us and she has a pink ring.
